Well the summer continues, and visitors are still here in good numbers. Great news for this area which is heavily dependent on tourism, it’s probably the single biggest employer. Saltire Taxis and Tours depends on about 95% of our income coming from the 7 months from April to September when visitors arrive. So it’s essential to keep our vehicles on the move as much as we possibly can. This we achieve by advertising our services, word of mouth, and by, most importantly, the support we gratefully receive from local businesses, hoteliers and holiday centres. We have been very lucky to gain your support, and we just want to let everyone know that this is very much appreciated and we give you all a promise of our commitment to giving you, our customers, and your guests the very best level of service we can provide.
This week I had a few days off to catch up on some sleep and get re-energised for the second half of the season. Coomball was filling the gap and was run ragged for 5 days solid, being on call 24/7 is no easy task and by my return he was exhausted. He is now off on his holidays to the Western Isles. I won’t say which one, I wouldn’t want his adoring fans to swamp the place.
At this point I’d also just like to say thank you to his wife for allowing me to borrow him so frequently and for her tolerance of having a phone ringing all hours of the day and night at her home. Not to mention all the coffees, chocolate biscuits, and sausage sandwiches she provides me with on my visits to speak with, and hand over vehicles to Coomball. Hurry back, I’m starving. Yer a Mrs Coomball.
The highlight for me on my return this week must have been transporting a hen from Kirkintilloch to Moffat in Dumfrieshire. Why, you may ask, was I going so many miles to pick up a hen? Well, I was asked by a couple of young ladies, Jillian and Frances from Shutters Restaurant (link at bottom) in Killin, to pick up their soon to be married friend Catherine and get her to her Hen Weekend. They were looking for a reliable, trustworthy company that would ensure their friend got a first class service. They supplied me with the balloons and a banner the night before to decorate the inside of the car with, which would ensure Catherine (the hen) felt special from the moment we picked her up and get her in the mood to celebrate her coming nuptials with all of her friends. On my arrival at Catherine’s I discovered she had no idea where I was taking her and what lay ahead of her. I was sworn to secrecy and we headed off on a mystery journey. On our arrival we were met by one of the funniest scenes I’ve witnessed in a long time.
Hope you all had a fantastic weekend ladies. We, at Saltire Taxis and Tours, wish Catherine and her husband-to-be the very best for their future.
So folks, remember we’re not just a taxi company. We’re here to help wherever we are needed and wherever we can.
